Stalking information
Whether it's walking, climbing, cycling, birdwatching, or watching marine mammals which is of
Interest Burghead is a good place to be based. The rugged granite of the Cairngorm National Park
which offers both wild mountain walking and less arduous walking in the ancient woods of Rothiemurchus
gives way to the Laich of Moray where there are numerous forest walks. The coastal path
(part of the North Sea Trail) offers spectacular views of the firth and hills
of Sutherland. The beaches of Burghead and Culbin are important resources for migrating birds and
Large flocks of Long-tailed Ducks, Pink-footed Geese, and curlew are regular visitors. There are many
cycle paths along the coast, in the forests and in the Cairngorms. The Dava Way, a gentle moorland cycle,
follows the old Forres-Grantown railway line.
